Fire Prevention Is 24/7/365!

Fire Prevention is the most important part of the fire service- preventing fires and other dangerous emergencies through education and enforcement. We at the Buchanan Engine Company #1 over the past 30 years have created a comprehensive, strong fire prevention program to help educate residents about fire safety. 

EDUCATION: Officers and members of our department give multiple fire safety and prevention presentations each year. We educate almost 300 students yearly at the Buchanan-Verplanck Elementary School, and we also give presentations to organizations such as the Through the Looking Glass Preschool. We are glad to give presentations and information to any organization in the Village of Buchanan! 

ENFORCEMENT: Enforcement of State Fire Code in the Village of Buchanan is the responsibility of the Village Building Department, not the Buchanan Engine Co. #1. The Building Inspectors also enforce NYS building and Village codes in Buchanan. We work closely with the Building Inspectors to ensure all our safety. Enforcement is a key aspect of fire prevention, as fire protection systems (sprinklers, fire doors, ect.), safe means of egress and other parts of the fire code ensure our safety as firefighters, and your safety as members of the public.
