Here is a lookback at some incidents and other notable events that took place during the month of March.
On March 4th we started out with an EMS call during the afternoon and a Chimney fire in the evening. Verplanck FD was on scene with their tower ladder, as part of our automatic mutual aid agreement.
On March 8th Utility 12 was requested to the City of Peekskill for a working structure fire.
On March 9th members participated in the Peekskill St. Patrick's Day parade.
On March 10th members participated in the Village of Buchanan St. Patrick's Day parade. After the parade BFD was placed on stand by for the Montrose Fire District for a reported structure fire. This is an automatic mutual aid agreement.
On March 21st we handled a structure fire on Lindsey Ave. Mutiple mutual aid units assisted. See that story for more information.
On March 22nd Utility 12 and Utility 4 were requested mutual aid to the City of Peekskill, for a high rise structure fire.
We are happy to announce that our department is the recipient of the Enbridge Fueling Futures grant in the amount of $10,000. This grant will be utilized to upgrade various aspects of our communications system, including upgrading our house siren controller/actuator and a new, redundant communications system at no cost to the village taxpayer. In addition, the department was also a recipient this year of a $5,000 grant from PERMA New York to purchase a new turnout gear dryer.
We have also been notified we are the recipient of further grants from external sources that will be released at a later date.
